Did you know?
The poppy became a symbol of remembrance for fallen soldiers after the First World War. It grew naturally along the edges of trenches and on the graves of soldiers in Flanders — its red colour evoking the sacrifice made. In 1915, Canadian physician John McCrae made it the subject of his poem In Flanders Fields, which helped establish the flower as an international symbol of remembrance for those who died in combat.
"In memory of our dead. Remembrance is the invisible presence of those who are gone."
