Walks and strolls around Baon
Around Baon, the quiet of the Tonnerrois is best discovered on foot or by bike: along the Burgundy Canal, on a loop from the village, or towards the unspoilt nature of the marshland. A few ideas for taking your time.
Along the Burgundy Canal
The towpath of the Burgundy Canal can be walked or cycled between Tonnerre and Ancy-le-Franc, passing through Tanlay. Flat and shaded, dotted with nautical stops and villages of the Armançon valley, the route runs 20 to 40 km as you wish, with a railway station at each end.
A loop starting from Baon
Starting from the village, a loop of about 15 km links Baon to the church of Saint-Marcel de Rugny (13th–16th c.), crosses the forest, descends towards Tanlay and returns along the canal towpath.
Lovely on an autumn morning, when the forest turns golden. Near Tanlay, 5 km from Baon, two waymarked trail-running routes (16 and 29 km) round out the options for walkers and runners.
Around the marshland and nature
Closer to the village, the Natura 2000 marshland and the surrounding meadows offer short, peaceful strolls — best done by staying on the paths to protect these sensitive habitats.
Practical advice
Bring sturdy shoes and water, adapt your outing to the weather and the seasons, and respect the places: stay on the paths, do not disturb wildlife or crops, and take your litter home. Some routes use shared roads: stay careful.
